We are calling on the Government and Dorset Council to take action now to tackle Dorset’s housing crisis. The Liberal Democrats have a plan to make more homes available for local young people and families by reducing the number of second homes and holiday lets. We want to protect our beautiful countryside from large-scale development and provide more homes for living in, not holiday lets. What we need is better use of existing houses. The Liberal Democrats plan is to: 1) Increase Council Tax on empty homes and second homes 2) Double Council Tax on holiday lets, such as Airbnb 3) Set a target that limits the total number of holiday lets in each town and village across Dorset. Getting under-used houses back into use is cheaper, quicker and better for the environment than building new houses in the countryside.
